The 63-year-old Manchester City supporter who was attacked on Tuesday evening after a duel with his club in Bruges no longer needs artificial ventilation, but has suffered brain damage.

The news is reported by his son, who also thanks the fans of Club Brugge on social media who called for an ambulance and may have saved his father's life.

The man from Ninove was the victim of aggression in a parking lot next to the highway near Ghent.

He was wearing a Manchester City scarf and was harassed at a gas station.

First his scarf was taken and then he was beaten up, possibly by a number of men.

After a blow to the back of the head, the man was taken unconscious to the hospital.

He is no longer in mortal danger.

During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the police arrested five people, two of whom are still in custody.

Club Brugge and Manchester City reacted shocked to the events.

Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola supported the man from Belgium on Friday by wearing a shirt that reads 'We are with you, Guido' at his press conference.

The players of the English top club recorded a video message.
