Blind was preferred on the UEFA website to Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, midfielder Noah Okafor (Red Bull Salzburg) and defender Sebastián Coates (Sporting CP).

The 31-year-old Orange international is the second Ajax player to be elected Player of the Week in the still early Champions League season.

Sébastien Haller was awarded the honor after the first round, after he had scored four times against Sporting CP.

Goalkeeper Giorgos Athanasiadis was named best player a round later.

He had booked a sensational 1-2 win over Real Madrid with Sheriff Tiraspol.

The Greek keeper is thus succeeded by Blind.

In the Johan Cruijff ArenA, Blind signed for Ajax's second goal on Tuesday, after the ban was broken by an own goal by Marco Reus.

In the second half, Antony and Haller gave the victory of the leader in group C an even better appearance.
