Ajax did good business in the Champions League on Tuesday with a sensational 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

The team from Amsterdam were much too strong for the German top club in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, which means that wintering in the million-dollar ball is almost a fact.

After eleven minutes Ajax already took a 1-0 lead through an own goal from Dortmund captain Marco Reus and after 25 minutes Daley Blind scored the 2-0.

With beautiful combinations, the team of coach Erik ten Hag lost Dortmund, although Ajax could and should have scored much more often before half-time.

At the start of the second half, Ajax escaped.

Erling Haaland shot through keeper Remko Pasveer on the crossbar, but after that the team from Amsterdam were stronger again.

Antony scored the 3-0 in the 57th minute and with a header, Champions League top scorer Sébastien Haller made it 4-0.

Due to the resounding victory, Ajax is sovereign in group C with the full nine points from three matches. If the team from Amsterdam also wins the away match against Dortmund in two weeks, it is certain that after three years they will be back in the knockout phase of the Champions League standing.

The team then also plays against Besiktas and at home against Sporting CP.

The other match in group C on Tuesday evening was won 1-4 by Sporting CP at Besiktas.

Defender Sebastián Coates scored twice in Istanbul and Pablo Sarabia and Paulinho were also accurate for the Portuguese champion.

Cyle Larin scored the goal for the Turkish club, who are scoreless at the bottom.

Sporting has three points and Dortmund six.

Looking back: Is this Ajax already better than the successful Ajax from 2019?

Ten Hag prefers Berghuis to Klaassen

Prior to the cracker between Ajax and Dortmund, the big question was whether Steven Berghuis or Davy Klaassen would start.

It was Berghuis and within ten minutes he was almost declaring the first Ajax goal.

Antony lingered in front of the Dortmund goal.

A minute later Ajax got another chance via Blind and another minute later it was hit.

A twisting free kick by Tadic was grazed with the head by Reus, making the 1-0 go into the books as an own goal by the German.

Ajax's lead was deserved.

The team from Amsterdam trumped Dortmund in football, resulting in many beautiful attacks.

At times it was a gala performance and after 25 minutes that already led to the 2-0.

Blind got the ball on the edge of the penalty area and knocked keeper Gregor Kobel with a low shot through the inside of the post.

The whirlwind game in combination with two quick goals was a dream scenario for Ajax, but the margin should have been even bigger before the break.

Berghuis shot wide in a promising position, Haller should have scored and Gravenberch even had two big chances.

Meanwhile, Dortmund had nothing to say until the feared Haaland escaped in the last minute before half-time.

He forced Pasveer to make his only save of the first half.

Haaland hits bottom of crossbar

For example, despite a fantastic first half, Ajax went into half-time warned, but at the start of the second half, Haaland took off again.

Pasveer again made the save, although he was helped by the bottom of the bar.

Furthermore, it was also Ajax that attacked after the break.

Gravenberch, the unhappiest Ajax player in the roundup, shot from close range at keeper Kobel, after which the invisible Donyell Malen was substituted at Dortmund after 53 minutes.

Four minutes later it was finally 3-0.

Antony dribbled in and hit the far corner.

It also became 4-0.

Eighteen minutes before the end, top scorer Haller headed in his sixth Champions League goal from a cross from Blind.

It only got better for Ajax, while Pasveer again prevented a Dortmund goal with another great save on a bet by Haaland.

It remained 4-0 on a beautiful evening for Ajax, which is almost certain of wintering.
