Tilde Johansson missed the U23 European Championships this summer due to a meniscus injury in the knee.

But she was not far from boarding the flight to Tallinn and participating in the championship.

- Two days before, I did an X-ray and decided the same day I was going to Landvetter (airport) that I would not do it, Johansson says to SVT Sport and continues:

- Afterwards, it felt just right.

If I had gone, I would not have been able to do myself justice.

She made the decision to have surgery on her knee, which bothered her during the year.

"I barely knew what to do"

Were you worried about the operation?

- I had been preparing for a few days, so I felt safe.

But they (the doctors) hardly knew what to do before they went into the lap;

if it was about sewing or removing the meniscus.

However, I felt safe when I was there, they do many operations like this.

- It is a very small operation really.

How has the rehabilitation gone?

- We have risen quite slowly because it is not the season for a while.

But I have started jogging, jumping a little light and worked on strengthening my leg.

Now the main focus is on strengthening the knee.

"No stress"

The 20-year-old believes that she could probably go max already now.

- But there is no stress.

If it was a big competition now, I could have jumped, I feel, even though I have not tested.

Johansson looks back on his year in two parts.

- In the beginning it went well at the Gothenburg GP.

I felt it would be a fun summer.

Even though I had some feelings in my knee, it was controlled.

Then it got worse for each competition.

The long jumper believes that it has not always been negative in 2021, but she has also had fun.

Is there anything special in your training that you focus on improving?

- The first step is to strengthen the operated leg.

Then it is to, together with Yannick (Tregaro, coach) focus on technology.

That I get it back and to put the power on the right leg.
