Footballer Lucas Hernández from FC Bayern appeared in court in Madrid on Monday.

Hernández may face a six-month prison sentence in Spain within the next ten days.

The responsible court informed the German press agency that he was personally and officially notified of this in Madrid on Monday.

Appealed

The 25-year-old Frenchman had actually only been summoned for Tuesday, but according to the information he appeared a day earlier, probably also because of the expected high media interest and the preparation for the Champions League game at Benfica Lisbon on Wednesday (9 p.m. in FAZ live ticker for the Champions League and DAZN).

The court spokesman added that one had to wait for the decision of the Madrid Higher Regional Court on an appeal lodged by Hernández.

However, if this is not yet available on October 28, the football player will have to serve his sentence in a Spanish prison of his choice.

The prison sentence had already been imposed in 2019 because of a violent dispute in February 2017 with his then girlfriend and now wife.

Both were sentenced to community service and a six-month ban on contact for domestic violence.

However, they reconciled quickly and traveled together for the six months, which meant that the then professional from Atlético Madrid violated the approach ban.
