During a large international meeting just over two weeks ago, Fifa proposed that the World Cup for women and men be held every two years.

At this week's video conferences, the men's WC will be discussed.

Arsène Wenger, Arsenal's former coach, is the person behind the criticized proposal and he will lead the discussion.

"As national team captains of the men's national team, their views are crucial," said Arsène Wenger, Fifa's head of global football development, in a statement on the federation's website.

Sweden against the proposal

The video meetings will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, and on Thursday.

All national team captain captains of national federations who are members of Fifa, including Sweden's Janne Andersson, are invited.

Both the European Football Association (UEFA), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), coaches and players' organizations have criticized Wenger's and Fifa's proposals to host the World Cup finals every two years instead of one in four since the first Uruguay tournament in 1930.

Sweden is also against the proposal.

In connection with the latest World Cup qualifiers in October, Janne Andersson said:

- In general, I can think that the World Cup every other year would be too often.

Without having seen the proposal in its entirety and knowing all the details in it.

There must be some form of exclusivity when it comes to the World Cup and the calendar we have today with the World Cup and the European Championships works well for national team football.

Jill Ellis, former national team captain for the USA women's national team, leads the work on the women's WC.

It is unclear whether a similar meeting will be held around the Women's World Cup.

SVT Sport is looking for Marika Domanski Lyfors, national team manager, for a comment.
