FC Schalke 04 made it into the top three of the second division table for the first time this season.
With a goal in stoppage time, the first division relegated won on Friday evening in front of 39,500 spectators late but well deserved 1-0 (0-0) at Hannover 96.
Striker Simon Terodde missed out this time and therefore did not manage to become the sole record scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Instead, the several thousand Schalke fans who had traveled with them were released by defender Marcin Kaminski, who scored the winning goal shortly before the end (90 + 5).
Then even the Schalke substitutes stormed the field cheering.
The 96ers owed their goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, who stood in the way of a Schalke leadership several times, that it was 0-0 for so long.
Especially at the beginning of the second half, the 2014 world champion showed two great reflexes when he first parried a shot from Marcin Kaminski (53rd) and, after the corner kick, a header from Dominick Drexler (54th).
In the 78th minute, the best player in the game had to leave the court injured.
The promotion favorite from Gelsenkirchen could have taken the lead in the first half.
Among other things, Terodde headed just wide of the gate from a good position (9th).
The second unlucky fellow of the game besides Zieler was Schalke's Mehmet Can Aydin, who only hit the post in the 12th minute and had to be replaced shortly afterwards with an injury (18th).
Regensburg remains in second place
Jahn Regensburg's team, undefeated for five games, has meanwhile missed the leap to the top of the table. In the top duel with SC Paderborn, Bayern had to be content with a 1-1 (1-0) win in the Benteler Arena in front of 7913 spectators. This means that Regensburg remain in second place behind FC St. Pauli (19), who have the same number of points and will only start on Saturday. Also the Paderborn, who could only win one of five home games, remain in wait with 18 points.
In a very intense game characterized by many duels, the guests had the better start and came in the 2nd minute through Charalambos Makridis to the 1-0 lead.
The offensive player completed a counterattack with a perfect left-footed shot into the right corner.
The Paderborn team had some good chances, especially through their striker Sven Michel, but had to wait until the 71st minute before substitute Kai Pröger managed to equalize.
