has decided to share with you some little-known anecdotes from the history of the Navy and White.

  • From the rivalry with OM to a whistled Zidane at Lescure via Jean Tigana and Claude Bez, there is something for everyone.

It will be one of the highlights of this season. The Girondins de Bordeaux are preparing to celebrate their 140th birthday this Sunday (3 p.m.) against Nantes at Matmut Atlantique during the 10th day of Ligue 1. Numerous activities including a fireworks show and a Legends match between the last two teams champions of France (that of 1999 and that of 2009) are planned in the program. In the stands, the Ultramarines, the largest group of Bordeaux supporters, should also ensure the show with tifos as they know how to do very well.

The Matmut Atlantique will be practically sold out (the club has set up a single price for this meeting).

This anniversary is the occasion to look a little in the retro.

20 Minutes

has decided to tell you five anecdotes (some quite incredible) on the history of the scapular club with the help of Laurent Brun.

Journalist, author and historian of the club, he is preparing to release his fourth book “Lescure, insolite” on November 5.

The day the Bordeaux-Marseille rivalry took on a new dimension

We are in 1942-1943.

A dispute between Bordeaux and Marseille settled after the final of the Coupe de France, on May 9, 1943, at the Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir, in Colombes.

It is “the Nemeur Affair”, named after a Bordeaux player from North Africa.

The boy played all the league and Cup matches with Bordeaux that season, but OM decided to everyone's surprise to file a complaint after the final because he would not, in reality, be qualified!

Bordeaux-OM: Has the 43-year-old invincibility at home against Marseille become a burden for the Girondins?

While the match must be replayed because of the draw (2-2), the Girondins are finally declared losers on the “green carpet”.

This decision will create a huge scandal up to the highest levels of the State!

Colonel Joseph Pascot, in charge of sport under the Vichy regime, does not accept this decision and declares: “A Cup final cannot be won on a green carpet, sacrebleu!

Let me be replayed this final immediately!

And we replay on May 22, 1943, again in Colombes, for a 4-0 victory for OM.

And without the presence on the scoresheet of Nemeur ...

The day the club lost a European Cup final after… 146 minutes!

The Latin Cup (which will precede the C1) certainly doesn't mean anything to anyone today. But from 1949 to 1957, it brought together the crowned champions clubs of Spain, Italy, France and Portugal. During the 1950 edition, the Girondins found themselves in the final against Benfica, considered the best team in the world! At the time, the two teams could not decide between themselves, neither during regulation time, nor during extra time (3-3). The match is therefore to be replayed.

But again a few days later (1-1) ... The decision is then taken to decide between the two teams at the first to score!

Benfica ended up winning "finish", after 146 minutes of play, thanks to a validated goal, although presumed to be tainted with a fault on Astresses, the young Bordeaux goalkeeper ... To which some will attribute a paradoxical "against his camp" !

It is the first major international trophy for Benfica, and the first European final for the Girondins.

The day Tigana went to train with the reserve

How did Jean Tigana find himself in the reserve team of the Girondins just a few weeks away from a major international competition?

It is the story of a standoff between two strong personalities, the French midfielder and Claude Bez.

At the time, Jean Tigana had a dispute with the management team and stood up to them.

Problem, he forgets that his president also has a little character.

Result of the races, Claude Bez ended up sending him to train with the reserve and play in D3!

Finally, the midfielder will quickly fall into line and have the trajectory we know.

Jean Tigana will notably be a Silver Ball, as they said at the time, behind a certain Michel Platini in 1984.

The day Bez almost got his 100,000 seat stadium

In 1985, Claude Bez, who has been traveling with his club in Europe for several years, sees Lescure filled by more than 42,000 spectators, in the C1 semi-final against Platini's Juventus. But this is not enough to the taste of the boss. He wants to be inspired by stadiums in Eastern countries to build an enclosure of… 100,000 seats in Bordeaux! Just that ! He then submits the idea to the Mayor of Bordeaux, Jacques Chaban-Delmas, who adheres. Over time, the project even ended up gaining unanimity among the local political class (including the opposition). One place is also chosen: it will be in the district of the lake, to the north.

But, ultimately, the project will not be carried out for various reasons, in particular because of the administrative relegation to D2 in 1991. For the record, in 2015, the new Girondins stadium will definitely emerge from the ground in the same district.

But with a gauge of 43,000 places and a less obvious political consensus!

The day Zidane was whistled at Lescure

Zinédine Zidane, when he signed for the Girondins in 1992, is already considered a very promising player.

But in Bordeaux, it quickly became the number 1 attraction of the French championship.

He carries the Navy and White to the top.

His career took off, including internationally (first selection at Parc Lescure in 1994).

Except that we often forget a rather unusual episode during his time at the Girondins at the start of his career.

At the time, Rolland Courbis, his trainer, sought to preserve him due to an injury.

What is he doing about it?

He simply makes him play half time out of two, usually in order to spare him and to avoid a relapse.

And at the remote post of number 6, in front of the defense!

Suddenly, at each exit of Zizou, the Bordeaux public whistles the player copiously, insulting him, and this, on several occasions!

Okay, that'll only last a very short time.

In 1994, the former number 10 was notably elected best hope in the first division with the Girondins.
