It was after the 1-1 match against Italy in the qualifiers for the U21 European Championship that Manchester United talent Anthony Elanga testified that a player in the opposing team made a racist comment against him.

The Swedish Football Association (SvFF) wrote on its website that it had forwarded the case to the referee and match delegate, and then chose to report the incident to the police.

- Right now, people from our side are sitting down in Italy and drawing up a police report.

Then we will see how they classify the whole crime, said the national team's security manager, Martin Fredman earlier to SVT Sport.

In Italy, there is a backlash against the data.

"FIGC denies the allegations made on the Swedish Football Association's website and reported on from certain news sources, and hopes that the bodies concerned will immediately clarify the case," the Italian association wrote in a statement on the website.

"At the same time, FIGC assures that Italian football and the national team in particular will continue to work to combat racism."

Following the announcements and statements from the Swedish and Italian federations, the European Football Association Uefa, which is responsible for the qualifiers, announces that they are initiating an investigation.

"An inspector has been selected to conduct a disciplinary investigation into the events that are alleged to have taken place," Uefa said in a statement.
