Initially, Nicki Pedersen - who during his long career has alternated successes with scandals - was sentenced to a six-month suspension by the Danish Motor Union (DMU).

This after an incident in connection with a league match in Holsted in June, when Pedersen confronted the referee and was accused of having "behaved threateningly and unsportsmanlike", Danish TV2 reported.

Following an appeal to NERI, the sentence was reduced to four months.

But Pedersen and his lawyer were not satisfied, but appealed again to the Danish Sports Confederation.

And there the decision has now been made that the suspension should be lifted.

Instead, Pedersen now has a suspended sentence;

if he is involved in a similar incident in the next 12 months, he will be punished with the suspension, reports Danish TV2.

Pedersen - individual world champion in 2003, 2007 and 2008 and world champion in teams 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014 - can thus compete again.

- I'm super relieved.

In recent months, I have been hovering in uncertainty, and now it's over, Pedersen tells Danish TV2.

However, Nicki Pedersen does not escape a fine of DKK 15,000.
