In a previous interview with the New York Times from 2019, Mary Cain said that Salazar tried to get her to reach an unhealthy weight, which led to the former junior world champion having suicidal thoughts.

- When I joined, I was told that if I was to get better, I need to get slimmer and slimmer ... and slimmer, she said then.

- He was constantly trying to make me lose weight.

He weighed me in front of my teammates.

Sued for SEK 175 million

According to the lawsuit, the 25-year-old American, who was trained by Salazar in the now closed training project Nike Oregon, has for several years been emotionally offended by the coach.

It states, among other things, The Oregonian.

The lawsuit states that Salazar said that Cain was too fat and that her breasts and buttocks were too big.

In a previous interview with the New York Times, Cain said that Salazar tried to get her to reach an unhealthy weight, which led to the former junior world champion having suicidal thoughts.

According to Cain, Nike should have been aware of the misconduct - but did nothing about it.

That's why Mary Cain is now suing Salazar and Nike for $ 20 million, equivalent to approximately SEK 175 million.

Nike does not want to comment on the lawsuit.

"Nike is working to have a positive impact on the future of the sport for women and girls and we are doing more on this level than ever before," the company said in a statement.

Alberto Salazar has been suspended for doping since 2019 when, in the middle of the World Athletics Championships in Doha, it emerged that the coach had provided active with testosterone and manipulated doping tests.

In September, Salazar, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing, lost his appeal to the Sports Arbitration Court Cas and is thus still suspended until 2023.

British long-distance runner Mo Farah is one of several stars previously trained by Salazar.

However, the four-time Olympic gold medalist has not been accused of doping, and has said that he would have ended the collaboration earlier if he had known what was going on.

Since last summer, 63-year-old Salazar has also been suspended for life from working as a coach in the USA.
