The loss against Lebanon topples the Syrian Football Association

The loss of the Syrian team against its Lebanese counterpart last Tuesday, with a score of 2-3, in the fourth round of the third and decisive round qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, cast a heavy shadow on the Syrian sports street, and contributed to the overthrow of the Syrian Football Association, according to the Syrian newspaper, Al-Watan. .

The newspaper said, quoting sources it described as "reliable", that: "Six members of the Syrian Federation submitted their resignations, after the defeat against Lebanon, which weakened the chance of "Nour Qasioun" in the competition for qualification cards to the World Cup.

The newspaper added, quoting a member of the union, who preferred not to reveal his name, that: "The members submitted oral resignations, pending the arrival of the Secretary-General of the union from Jordan to submit them officially."

Al-Watan indicated that the reasons for the resignation are also due to an ongoing conflict within the corridors of the Union, where the president is accused of excluding important and influential decisions, especially since the defeat against Lebanon led to the Syrian team bottoming out in the first group with one point, in a group led by the Iranian team with 10 points, with a difference of 10 points. Two points from South Korea in second place, and Lebanon advanced to third place with five points, then the UAE and Iraq with three points each.
