World champion Karl Geiger has been named national skier of the year by the German Ski Association (DSV).

The association published the result of this vote among the active athletes on Wednesday morning when they were dressed in Schwäbisch Hall.

The 28-year-old ski jumper from the Allgäu is to be officially honored by association president Franz Steinle on Wednesday evening.

In the past few years, ski jumper Markus Eisenbichler (2019) and alpine racing driver Thomas Dreßen (2020) had prevailed.

Geiger has had an impressive winter behind him, winning twice gold (team, mixed) as well as silver and bronze in the individual at the World Championships in his home town of Oberstdorf.

He was also the ski flying world champion in Planica, Slovenia, and won the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament, which is also held in Oberstdorf.

As a duo with his roommate Eisenbichler, family man Geiger has advanced to become a leading figure in the German ski jumping team in recent years.

It also applies to the Olympic winter 2021/22 with the highlight Beijing as a candidate for successes and medals.

During the outfit, which the ski association traditionally uses as a media event, other active people were also honored with the “Golden Ski” as the best in their respective discipline.

Kira Weidle and Andreas Sander won in the alpine, Franziska Preuß and Arnd Peiffer in the biathlete, Katharina Hennig and Lucas Bögl in the cross-country team.

In addition to Springer Geiger, jumper Katharina Althaus and combiner Vinzenz Geiger were also honored in the Nordic area.
