The beach volleyball players Karla Borger and Julia Sude surprisingly won the final of the World Tour Finals.

The duo from Düsseldorf prevailed on Sunday evening in the final in Cagliari against the Canadians Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes.

Borger / Sude unexpectedly won the final in Sardinia 2-0 (21:13, 23:21).

The 32-year-old Borger and the 34-year-old Sude were only third in the group and reached the quarter-finals. After that, the third place in the European Championship achieved three victories against absolute top teams within a week. On the way to the final, Borger / Sude had initially thrown the Brazilian world number one Agatha and Duda 2: 1 (21:16, 24:26, 15:11) out of the competition in the quarter-finals and in the subsequent duel for a place in the final with the Russian world number three Nadezhda Makrogussowa / Swetlana Cholomina also reciprocated in three sets (21:13, 20:22, 15:11) for their defeat in the preliminary round.

In the round of the best eight, the second in the German championship, who had originally already ended their season after their preliminary round at the Olympic Games last summer, only moved into third in the group. Borger / Sude had already shown themselves to be a favorite scare for the first time in the preliminary round with their 2-1 success against the Olympic champions Alix Klineman / April Ross from the USA and showed their strong form.

By winning the final after the fourth match point, the only German participants also ended their series of defeats against Pavan / Humana-Paredes.

After their success at the World Tour tournament in Cancun, Mexico, Borger / Sude had to admit defeat in all five other duels.

The last time the Rhinelander by choice had to acknowledge the bitterest defeat in Tokyo.
