The Catalan Dragons lost in the final of the Super League, the most prestigious competition for rugby union clubs in the northern hemisphere.

After failing three times in the semi-finals of this closed league created in 1996 by press magna Rupert Murdoch, the franchise was playing its first final.

The Catalan Dragons led the score until 13 minutes from time, before losing 12-10 to St-Helens (a club from Liverpool).

The meeting took place in front of 45,000 spectators at Old Trafford, the usual venue for Manchester United footballers.

Rugby union and the super league in particular, are popular across the Channel.

A spotlight on the discipline

Based in Perpignan, the Dragons are a real sporting, economic and popular success in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

The discipline hopes to benefit from a spotlight to develop outside its sphere of influence, located in part of Occitania.
