A former Allsvenskan football player was acquitted this summer by Malmö District Court, where he was charged with having received a yellow card in an Allsvenskan match - in exchange for borrowing SEK 300,000.

But when the Swedish Football Association's disciplinary committee two weeks ago came with its verdict, it was clear that they had chosen to punish the player.

Four years of suspension from all sports in Sweden became their sentence.

"His actions in the Allsvenskan match have - together with his background as a professional and role model for Swedish football youth - received enormous media attention and the extensive negative publicity has seriously damaged confidence in Swedish football," the disciplinary committee wrote in its ruling.

Two more appeals

Now, however, the player has chosen to appeal the verdict to the National Sports Board.

This is confirmed by the Swedish Sports Confederation's registrar Joakim Dahl for SVT Sport.

Two other players (a national team player in futsal, as well as a player who is active at a lower level) who were punished by the disciplinary committee in the same case have also appealed their sentences.

The fourth and final player (also a national team player in futsal) who was judged by the disciplinary committee has not yet appealed, but has the rest of the day on him.
