Beach volleyball players Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen finally defeated the Olympic champions Anders Mol and Christian Sørum at the World Tour Finals in Cagliari.

The Dutch were too strong for the Norwegian couple in three sets: 21-19, 23-25 ​​and 24-22.

Brouwer and Meeuwsen had lost the last five meetings with Mol and Sørum, including at the Olympic Games and the European Championship this year.

At the Tokyo Games, the Norwegians were too strong in the eighth finals with 21-17 and 21-19.

Mol and Sørum then took Olympic gold.

A few weeks later, they again beat the Dutch couple (17-21, 21-17 and 15-13) in the semifinals of the European Championship.

The Norwegians also defeated Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot in the European Championship final.

Brouwer and Meeuwsen had lost their first group match in Cagliari in three sets against a Russian duo on Wednesday.

Christiaan Varenhorst and Steven van de Velde recorded their second victory.

The duo beat Americans Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb in straight sets.

Sanne Keizer and Madelein Meppelink suffered their second and third defeat of the tournament.

After losing to the Swiss duo Anouk Vergé-Depré/Joana Heidrich earlier in the day, the beach volleyball players also lost to Sarah Sponcil and Kelly Claes from the United States.
