Thanks to a victory by Alexander Zverev, Team Europe is heading for a clear success at the Laver Cup of tennis professionals.

The team around the German Olympic champion leads 11: 1 against the world selection in Boston before the final day on Sunday.

Whoever collects a total of 13 out of 24 points wins the Laver Cup.

The European team is only missing one victory from the four games on Sunday to triumph as in the previous edition in 2019.

On Saturday the Europeans decided all four matches for themselves.

Zverev won his individual against the American John Isner 7: 6 (7: 5), 6: 7 (6: 8) and 10: 5.

Previously, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas had defeated the Australian Nick Kyrgios 6: 3 and 6: 4.

In the evening session, US Open winner Daniil Medvedev from Russia swept Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6: 4, 6: 0 off the pitch in 75 minutes.

At the end of the day, Tsitsipas and the Russian Andrej Rublev extended their team's lead in doubles with a 6: 7 (8:10), 6: 3, 10: 4 against Isner and Kyrgios.

At the Laver Cup, both teams each consist of six professionals and one substitute.

There are three singles and one doubles on each of the three days.

A win is worth one point on Friday, two points per game on Saturday and three on Sunday.

In the previous year, the event was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

In 2019 the team from Europe triumphed, Zverev took the decisive points with victory in the individual over the Canadian Milos Raonic.

With Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the three long-time superstars in the industry are missing this year due to injuries or exhaustion.
