Spanish motorcycle rider Dean Berta Vinales, 15, was killed on Saturday during a race at the Jerez circuit (Spain) counting towards the Superbike championship (WSBK).

Cousin of MotoGP rider Maverick Vinales, the young man suffered an accident during the first race of the WorldSSP300 class.

He died of chest and head injuries, championship organizers said in a statement.

This was his first season of competition in this category.

He raced for the Vinales Racing Team, led by Angel Vinales, Maverick's father.

Another young Spanish motorcycle rider, Hugo Milan, 14, was killed in July during a European Talent Cup race at the Motorland Aragon circuit, also in Spain.

In May, another rider, the Swiss Jason Dupasquier, 19, was killed after an accident during qualifying for the Moto3 World Championship race of the Italian Grand Prix at the Mugello circuit (Italy).
