The Villa de Llanes Rally, the eighth round of the Spanish Championship, was marked by the death of two drivers who were competing at the wheel of a Seat Marbella GL.
An accident during the sixth special of the day, in the middle of the descent of the Alto del Fito, took the lives of
Jaime Gil Vitoria
and
Diego Calvo González
, who collided with the guardrail at high speed.
The emergency services could do nothing to save both of them.
The accident took place shortly after noon, during the sixth special stage, 19.9 km long.
Gil and Calvo participated in the Marbella Cup at the wheel of car 131, of the La Trazada Sport team.
After their deaths were made public, the organization decided to suspend the second and last stage of the Villa de Llanes Rally, which had started early on Saturday and had scheduled its end at 8:45 p.m.
