Maldini scores in his first major participation, and Milan leads the Italian league

One of the most famous names in Italian football returned to the scorers list in Serie A on Saturday as Daniel Maldini scored in Milan's 2-1 win over Spezia in his first starting line-up.

The 19-year-old followed in the footsteps of his father Paolo and grandfather Cesare, two legends of Milan, when he scored a league goal in the 48th minute with a header to help Milan top the competition.

Daniel Verdi equalized for the hosts with a ball that changed direction, but substitute Brahim Diaz snatched the victory for Milan near the end.

Milan jumped to the top of the competition with 16 points before the rest of the round matches resumed.

Spezia is 17th and has four points.
