Olympic champion Ricarda Funk crowned her season and also won gold at the Canoe Slalom World Championship.

The 29-year-old made it through the forest of poles on Saturday in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Elena Lilik, who is known by her maiden name Apel, completes the German double success in second place.

Funk thus achieved a historic and presumably unique triumph made possible by postponing the Summer Olympics by one year.

Because normally there are no world championships in the Olympic year.

"That I did it like this is just unbelievable," said Funk.

The double success this year was preceded by a big disappointment in the 2016 Olympic year.

“In 2016 I was so sad that I didn't get into the Olympic team.” That's why she set herself the big goal of the Olympics for 2020 and - after the postponement - 2021.

"It's totally crazy and I can't really believe it yet," said the newly crowned world champion.

Lilik was delighted too.

“I'm super happy with my time,” she said after her faultless drive.

"It's so exciting, I can't believe it."

She and Funk not only share the podium at the World Cup in Slovakia: the two canoeists are also roommates in room 508 in their hotel.

The men could not build on the success of the women in their World Cup final.

In the semifinals, Noah Hegge, Hannes Aigner and Stefan Hengst were able to line up a trio in the field of the last ten starters.

When the French Boris Neveu won the final, Hengst and Hegge had to settle for fifth and sixth place.

The Olympic third party Aigner even missed a goal and had to bury all title dreams.
