The United States team has made an excellent start to the Ryder Cup, the biannual battle against the best golfers in Europe.

The Americans took a 6-2 lead in the first eight matches at Whistling Straits in Kohler, USA.

The formation of captain Steve Stricker already led 3-1 after the first four matches of foursomes (in which two players alternate with the same ball), thanks in part to strong victories by the couples Dustin Johnson/Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele/ Patrick Cantlay.

The only European point came in the name of the Spanish duo Jon Rahm/Sergio García.

For García, who is participating for the tenth time, it was his 23rd victory in the Ryder Cup.

In the second session of four games, played according to the format fourballs (both players of a team play their own ball), it was again 3-1 for the US.

The pairs Harris English/Tony Finau and Johnson/Schauffele brought in a full point with victories.

Europe collected two half points with two draws.

Europe won four of the last five editions

Saturday is the second day of the Ryder Cup and then there are again two sessions of four matches.

The prestigious event ends on Sunday, with 12 points remaining to be earned.

The US is trying to recapture the cup this year from Europe, which won the previous edition of the Ryder Cup in Paris in 2018.

Last year, the continental battle was canceled due to the corona virus.

Europe has won four of the last five editions.

The first of the 43 editions of the Ryder Cup was in 1927. The Americans are in the lead in the eternal ranking, with 26 victories.
