The only ski lift in Saint-Jean-de-Sixt (Haute-Savoie), its 300 meters of cables and its five pylons were recently dismantled.

The equipment had not been used since 2017. This is the first dismantling carried out by Domaines Skiables de France (DSF).

The organization is committed to removing three unused structures per year by 2023, reports France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

The objective is to "preserve the mountain through concrete measures in terms of energy and greenhouse gas emissions, water management, protection of biodiversity and preservation of landscapes", a explained DSF.

No "ghost station"

The ski lift has been discontinued due to its lower importance compared to those of the neighboring ski resorts, Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.

It is not, however, a "ghost station", assured Laurent Reynaud, of DSF: "It is not because today we are dismantling a ski lift here in St-Jean-de-Sixt that tomorrow we will do the same in La Clusaz, Manigod or nearby, ”he said.

The old equipment will give way to pastures, camping or even natural spaces.

Three ski lift companies in the Aravis massif took care of this on a voluntary basis.
