"I'm like good wine, I hope to become even better": At 33, Robert Lewandowski received the Golden Boot for 2020-21 on Tuesday, and assures us that he never thought of stopping.

"Age is just a number, I feel very good, my form indicators have never been so good," said the gunner of Bayern Munich, awarded for the first time in his career by the prestigious trophy awarded every year since 1968 to the top scorer of the European championships.

"I know that with my body, I can still play for years at the highest level, I am like good wine and I hope to become even better", he assured at a press conference after the ceremony, organized in the Bayern Museum at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

I would like to thank my family, team mates, coaches and the entire @FCBayern team🙏I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together as a team.

Thank you!

"Measure myself against the best"

This Golden Boot crowns the Pole's breathtaking 2020-21 financial year, who broke a very old record, that of the number of goals scored by a player in a season in the Bundesliga: with 41 units (in 29 matches actually played), he passed the late Gerd MĂĽller, who had held him since the 1971-72 season with 40 goals.

During the ceremony, it was his wife Anna that Lewandowski first thanked: “She is a great support for me and a motivation, when things are a little less well,” he said.

Former Polish international karate, Anna Lewandowska is also a nutritionist and takes care of the diet of her champion husband.

“I am very proud of him”, she replied to her husband's compliments, “he is extraordinary as a person, as an athlete, as a partner, as a friend and as a husband”.

Compared to James Bond by Bayern

Praised by its leaders for his professionalism and his team spirit, compared to James Bond ("agent 009") by the president of Bayern Herbert Hainer, Lewandowski assured that he did not intend to stop there: " It's not over yet, we are still hungry for titles, ”he said, referring to his desire to win the Champions League a second time, after that of 2020.

The Pole is only the second Bundesliga player to win the Golden Boot, after Gerd MĂĽller (1970 and 1972).

For the award of the trophy, a factor favoring major championships has been introduced since 1997. Each goal scored in the five biggest leagues in the UEFA ranking (England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France) is worth two points.

Those successful in the championships between 6th and 22nd place are worth 1.5 points, and only one point in the other championships.
