34-year-old Ellen van Dijk was one of the favorites ahead of the World Cup speed race, which is back in her home country, the Netherlands.

She felled the 30.3 kilometers in the time 36.05.28, which for a long time seemed to be an exclusion.

This summer's Olympic runner-up, Marlen Reusser challenged for the gold but crossed the finish line just over ten seconds late.

The second World Cup gold in the career of the experienced Van Dijk, who last won in 2013.

Third finished one of the biggest favorites before the competition, Annemiek Van Vleuten, who won World Cup gold in 2017 and 2018.

Nathalie Eklund was Sweden's only participant in the pace race and finished in 18th place, after she made a mistake in a curve, early in the race.

- You went from a narrow road to a wider road.

The audience cheered as you got a lot of adrenaline and it felt like I could start pedaling early in the curve.

Once I started pedaling, I did it too early, says Eklund in SVT's broadcast.

- It was nothing that affected me mentally, she continues.

The 30-year-old began investing full-time in cycling in 2018 and has in recent weeks had a rapidly upward curve in his career, with European Championship and World Cup debuts in just a few weeks.

- It has gone very fast, especially now at the end. I've been dreaming about this for a long time. Now the next dream is to qualify for the Olympics, now I have checked an intermediate goal on the road, she says.
