The Netherlands will start on Saturday with Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon groenpoor in singles at the Davis Cup meeting with Uruguay.

Robin Haase has to settle for a spare role in Montevideo.

Uruguay is missing the best player Pablo Cuevas, the number 97 in the world ranking, in singles.

His younger brother Martin Cuevas (ATP-515) will take on Greekpoor (ATP-133) on Saturday.

The Davis Cup meeting starts with the match between Van de Zandschulp (ATP-62) and the only nineteen-year-old Uruguayan Francisco Llanes (ATP-1.262).

Van de Zandschulp recently impressed by reaching the quarterfinals at the US Open.

There is no place for Robin Haase, for years the highest ranked Dutchman on the ATP ranking.

With a 224th place in the world ranking, the 34-year-old from Hagenaar has now been classified lower than Van de Zandschulp and Greekpoor.

The Netherlands remains active in World Group after victory

In the doubles, the Dutch specialists Wesley Koolhof and Matwé Middelkoop will compete against Ariel Behar and Pablo Cuevas on Sunday, who will then come into action.

Jean-Julien Rojer is not part of the selection.

The veteran has barely seen any action since he tested positive for the corona virus during the Tokyo Olympics.

Captain Paul Haarhuis still has the opportunity to adjust his setup for the doubles and the fourth and fifth singles.

There is therefore a possibility that Haase will still take action.

If the Netherlands beat Uruguay, the Orange squad will remain active in the world group and reach the Davis Cup Qualifiers, which are scheduled for next year.

The winners of the Qualifiers will reach the Davis Cup Finals at the end of 2022.
