Paris St Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino warned that his club's attacking trio may need some time to shine, after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Club Brugge in the opening group A of the Champions League on Wednesday.

Lionel Messi hit the goal in his first start with Paris Saint-Germain, and failed to consolidate his record of 120 goals in the tournament.

Neymar gave a disappointing performance, while Kylian Mbappe was injured after making the goal of Paris Saint-Germain for Ander Herrera.

The trio played for the first time together and struggled to find space in the organized Belgian side's defence.

"The trio need time to shine," Pochettino said.

Brugge took advantage of the spaces in the defense of the Parisian team, and the effectiveness of the team's midfield was absent in the absence of Marco Verratti injured.

The Argentine coach included the duo, Danilo and Julian Draxer, in place of Leandro Paredes and Jorginho Wijnaldum.

"We needed more fluidity and consistency," Pochettino said. "We made a lot of mistakes. Despite all that, I'm satisfied with the performance of the players. We have to be calm and work."

In the other match in the group: Manchester City defeated Leipzig 6-3 before visiting Saint-Germain two weeks later at the "Princes Park" stadium.
