The cheer for Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United suffered a major setback in the second game with the Portuguese.

Despite another hit by the star, United lost to Swiss champions Young Boys Bern in the Champions League 1: 2 (0: 1) on Tuesday evening.

After being sent off against Aaron Wan-Bissaka (35th), Manchester had to play for a long time and received the second goal seconds before the end of the game.

"Wasn't the result we wanted, but now it's time to relax and concentrate on the next game," wrote the 36-year-old on Instagram.

Folder on the floor

At first it looked as if the "Red Devils" and Ronaldo were building on the 4-1 win over Newcastle United at the weekend, in which Ronaldo had scored twice in his first game for Manchester in twelve years.

The Portuguese also took the lead against Bern.

It was his 135th goal in the royal class.

The record scorer had previously also become the competition's record player - with 177 appearances, he is now level with his former Real Madrid team-mate Iker Casillas.

Until then, Ronaldo experienced the only moment of shock before the game: As you can see in the photos, he was taking care of a folder - this was hit by a shot by the Portuguese while warming up.

But Bern, who has been coached by former Schalke coach David Wagner since this season, was brisk and courageous.

In the second half, the Young Boys turned the game around in the sold-out Wankdorf Stadium with goals from Moumi Ngamaleu (66th) and Jordan Siebatcheu in stoppage time (90th + 5), whereupon cheers broke out in the stands.

Ronaldo was already substituted: "He ran a lot on Saturday and today," said coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about his 36-year-old star player, who had at least briefly reacted to his substitution with questioning looks.
