Cristiano Ronaldo touches the record for the number of CL matches

Manchester United will face Swiss Young Boys away in the Champions League premiere.

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored two goals in the return leg when United defeated Newcastle 4-1 on Saturday, is included from the start.

And that is his 177th appearance in the Champions League.

This means that he now, together with the former cage keeper Iker Casillas, shares the throne regarding the number of matches in the tournament's history.

The Portuguese played his first CL match in 2003.

Opponent Young Boys has only played six CL matches and one has ended in victory - then against Juventus, with Ronaldo in the lead in 2018.

National team captain Victor Nilsson Lindelöf joins Ronaldo in the starting eleven.

U21 national team player Anthony Elanga is on United's bench.
