A person in a leading position at the Swedish Football Association, SvFF, granted around SEK 400,000 in support of his own association.

The money came from the initiative "Everyone is different - different is good", which aims to promote equality and inclusion in football.

The malpractice was discovered in March, but the person was only allowed to leave his post this summer.

"Should go to the right purpose"

Since 2018, the General Heritage Fund, which is managed by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, has granted around SEK 9 million to the SvFF project.

Now they will review how their payments to SvFF have been handled.

Hans Andersson, unit manager at the Inheritance Fund Department at the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, points out that at present there is no information that funds from the Inheritance Fund have been used incorrectly.

- We want the money from the general inheritance fund to go to the right purpose, says Hans Andersson, unit manager at the Heritage Fund department at Kammarkollegiet.

They have therefore requested a large amount of information from the Swedish Football Association and hope to be able to complete their review in October.

- We will review account statements, general ledger reports, earnings reports, salary specifications and will ask questions about whether transactions have been made between the project and related parties, says Hans Andersson.

The union will also investigate

Following SVT's revelations last week, the SvFF management, and Secretary General Håkan Sjöstrand, have received internal criticism.

On Monday, a board meeting was held where it was decided on an independent external review of what happened.

This is based on a proposal from Sjöstrand himself.

"He has asked for it both for his own and for Swedish football's integrity and credibility," says SvFF's chairman Karl-Erik Nilsson in a written comment.
