Novak Djokovic lost Sunday to Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final of the US Open, failing to achieve the feat of a Grand Slam over a year.

A huge disappointment for the Serbian player but also for his supporters, as shown by the atmosphere in Belgrade, the sportsman's birthplace.

REPORTING

An achievement for one, a great disappointment for the other.

The Russian Daniil Medvedev, world number 2, won the US Open last night in New York, beating world number 1 Novak Djokovic in the final in 3 sets.

The Serb thus misses the opportunity to win a historic 21st major tournament and especially to succeed in the Grand Slam the same year.

In Belgrade, the birthplace of Djokovic, the evening was painful.

"We continue to encourage him"

The inhabitants will indeed not have had the opportunity this night to party for Novak Djokovic, who failed in his quest to win all four Grand Slam tournaments in a single season.

Miléna, who came with friends to a restaurant on the outskirts of Belgrade, still believed in it even when the champion was behind two sets to zero.

"It's his restaurant. The atmosphere is really magnificent but now people are angry", regrets the young woman.

His opponent, Daniil Medvedev, was the strongest.

The Russian wins his first Grand Slam tournament when the Serbian remains stuck at 20, like Nadal and Federer.

Constantine watched the game in a downtown bar and is fatalistic.

"What do you want to do? He missed a big opportunity but we will see next year. In any case, we continue to encourage Nole", he says in reference to the nickname of the athlete.
