The German national football team plane carrying some members of the "National Manschaft" from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, to Frankfurt, made an emergency landing in the city of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, due to a technical malfunction, as revealed by the German Football Association.

"Safety first. We have made a precautionary emergency stop in Edinburgh," the German Football Association said on its Twitter site at dawn on Thursday.

"Everyone is in good condition, we are currently checking the engine..." he added.

Then, at 8:30 GMT, he added, "The alternate plane is on its way to Edinburgh to bring the team back."

According to reports in local newspapers, some Germans were not on this plane after Bayern Munich trio Manuel Neuer, Serge Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich decided to return alone to Munich directly.

The English Premier League players, Timo Werner, Antonio Rudiger, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernd Leno and Kai Haverts, also returned in another way as well.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport told AFP: "We can confirm that the crew of one of the planes requested a stopover in Edinburgh in the early hours (of Thursday) and we were happy to respond to their request."

Germany beat Iceland 4-0, moving 4 points clear of its group in the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
