The person sat in a leading position at the Swedish Football Association and at the same time had a key role in a football association.

Therefore, the person was forced to leave his employment at the union when it was discovered that SEK 400,000 from the project "Everyone is different - different is good" had ended up in their own association.

- It is unfortunate that the situation arises at all.

But the money is back and it has had consequences for the employee, says Håkan Sjöstrand, general secretary of the Swedish Football Association.

Internal investigation in the spring

The general secretary says he found out about the payments in March this year.

Then an internal investigation was ongoing until the summer where external legal expertise was brought in.

The employee then left his employment.

- We need to review certain routines.

At the same time, it is difficult to find guarantees for individuals and things they do, says Håkan Sjöstrand.

Ica partner

The money paid out came from the Swedish Football Association's initiative "Everyone is different - different is good".

A project that will promote equality and inclusion in youth football.

Collaborating partners include the food giant Ica, which has contributed multi-million sums since 2016.

Does this damage confidence in the project?

- The most important thing is how to handle errors when they are discovered.

In this case, it is an employee who has made a mistake, it is not the Swedish Football Association that has made a mistake, says Håkan Sjöstrand.
