Abu Dhabi kicks off the countdown to the Swimming World Cup with a world water sports festival

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council revealed the organization of an international water sports festival, with the participation of more than 1,000 athletes representing more than 180 nationalities, to celebrate the start of the countdown and 100 days before the start of the World Championships in short-distance swimming (25 meters), which will be held at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island during the period 16 December 21, 2021.

The festival’s agenda includes new sporting events held on the sidelines of the World Swimming Championships, namely: the qualifiers for the World High Diving Championships, the World Diving Championships for Teams, the Open Water Relay (4×1500 metres), and the 10km Open Water Swimming World Cup Marathon Finals. The organization of the festival comes within the agenda of the global sporting events of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, which aspires to confirm the merit and position of Abu Dhabi and its prestigious reputation and its prominent global presence in the global sports industry scene. The upcoming global event is also held in cooperation with the International Federation for Swimming (FINA).

The global entertainment destination, "Etihad Arena" on Yas Island, will witness the hosting of the activities of the World Championships in short distance swimming (25 meters), which will be held for the first time in Abu Dhabi during the period 16-21 December 2021, with a distinguished global participation that includes a selection of the best talented swimmers in short distances from all over the world. around the world to compete and win the title of the best for the year 2021 in the capital, Abu Dhabi.

The unveiling of the new events of the festival contributes to the leading role that Abu Dhabi plays globally and its attraction of elite and talented athletes to compete with their skills in the upcoming global sports gathering, and new competitions will be held in Yas Bay and Al Ittihad Arena.

On the other hand, the qualifications for the World High Diving Championships will be an important station for the participants and crucial to qualifying for the tournament to be held in Fukuoka, Japan, in 2022. The men's competitions will be held on a 27-meter platform, and the women's competitions will be held on a 20-meter platform, while the World Team Diving Championships will include Individual and group competitions at a height of 3 meters and 10 meters.

The Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Aref Hamad Al-Awani, said in a press statement: "We value the support of our wise leadership and its keenness to develop and promote progress in the sports sector, which yields many important successes, foremost of which is hosting international sporting events and its direct impact on society and the development of a culture of sport. It contributes to supporting the economic and promotional resources of the Emirate.

The international community, in support of a well-established sports culture in society, and working to promote a healthy lifestyle that preserves gains and enhances achievements, in line with the capital’s prestigious position globally.”


He continued: "From the moment the announcement of the holding of the World Championships in short distance swimming (25 meters) in Abu Dhabi, we are looking forward to hosting the elite and talented athletes who recently participated in the Tokyo Olympics, and to welcome them on Yas Island as part of a distinguished historical event."
