“Missed opportunities” cost “Al-Abyad” to lose 4 important points in the World Cup qualifiers

Today, the national football team repeated the same scenario of Lebanon's opening match in the third and final phase of the 2022 World Cup, where it came out with a draw point with its host, the Syrian team, and lost a victory that was within reach.

The prominent feature of the match was the repetition of the same problem of wasting easy opportunities by the team's attack, as happened in the Lebanon match, which cost Al-Abyad to lose 4 very important points in the first two rounds of the qualifiers, and before playing more difficult matches against Iran, South Korea and Iraq.

Ali Mabkhout scored the first goal for Al-Abyad in the 12th minute, while Mahmoud Al-Bahr scored the equalizer for Syria in the 64th minute.

And the coach of the national team, Marvik, began unable to find solutions to the problem of wasting easy opportunities, as well as the defensive gaps that the team paid dearly for.

The second consecutive draw and the loss of points weaken the chance of the national team in the competition for the qualification for the World Cup.

The team faced great difficulties in this match and suffered from problems in defense and attack, as well as a lack of focus and haste and the failure of some players to appear at the required level, repeating the same scenario of mistakes that accompanied its match in Lebanon. The national team ended the first half with a clean goal scored by Ali Mabkhout "12", taking advantage of a fatal mistake from Syrian goalkeeper Ibrahim Alama, to punish Mabkhout, the follower, by putting the ball in the net, but the Syrian team succeeded in scoring the equalizing goal "64" by Kamel Hamisha. The national team's top scorer, Ali Mabkhout, raised his goals in these qualifiers to 12 goals.

The team started the first half well by leading some attacks by the trio of Ali Mabkhout, Caio Canedo and Fabio de Lima, but it was hampered by the lack of focus and the final touch. Despite being late with a goal in the first half, the Syrian team was not easy, but led several attacks led by Omar Kharbin and Mahmoud Al-Mawas on goalkeeper Ali Khaseef's goal, but he saved them from more than one Syrian chance.

In the first half, Al-Abyad did not take advantage of the state of confusion among the players of the Syrian team, especially in the back line, due to the lack of harmony between the defense and the goalkeeper and translating this into goals. Mabkhout missed before the end of the first half a valuable opportunity to score a second goal for the team "47" from a ball played by Bandar Al-Ahbabi.

The players of the national team protested more than once against the decisions of the Omani international referee, Ahmed Al-Kaf, especially the yellow card for Walid Abbas. The UAE national team played the same match as the previous line-up in which it played in the Lebanon match, with the exception of only the participation of the player Abdullah Ramadan from the beginning in the place of the player Abdullah Hamad Al-Manhal.

The second half witnessed a decline in the team's performance. On the other hand, the Syrian team tried to exploit the state of confusion among some of the team's defenders and created gaps in the back line.

.

Lima almost scored a goal "58" with a powerful header, but the Syrian goalkeeper saved it and saved his own goal.

The Syrian team succeeded in scoring the equalizer through player Kamel Hamisha "64" from a cross, taking advantage of a fatal mistake by defender Shaheen Abdel Rahman in the dangerous area.

He missed more than one dangerous opportunity (68) when he faced the goalkeeper, 72 (due to rushing and lack of good focus), and another chance from Cayo (76) with a powerful shot.

The last minutes of the match witnessed active moves by the Syrian team, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
