For Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, the current US Open is going on as successfully as last year.

He made it to the quarterfinals again, without losing a single set to his opponents in the first four matches.

The 25-year-old athlete, for whom this is already the third place in the top eight at the US Open, won another victory in a duel with Briton Daniel Evans.

At the same time, if last season Medvedev did not have a chance to meet with a seeded opponent at the start of the US Open, then Evans could boast of a fairly high position in the ATP ranking, namely 27th place. Despite the fact that the Briton has been among the best players in the world for a long time and regularly participates in all major tournaments, the Russian tennis player had to play with him for the first time.

From the very beginning of the match, Medvedev had an excellent serve - he scored half of his points in the first game with aces. In the next draw, Evans also managed to get the ball into play quite powerfully, but then the Russian tennis player beat him at the reception. His awesome lane sweep brought the first break point, which came after Evans' double fault. This was enough for Medvedev to bring the first set to victory, surpassing the opponent in actively won rallies and making fewer unforced mistakes.

The second game immediately began with a lost serve of the Briton, who did not score a single point. But this time Medvedev did not keep the created advantage to the end. In the sixth game, the Russian unusually often hit the net during long rallies and allowed Evans to level the score. True, the Briton was not happy for long - he immediately lost the game again dry on his serve. More Medvedev did not allow himself to relax. At the end of the second set, he attacked Evans with two aces in a row, bringing their total to 11. By that time, the Briton did not have a single serve through.

Medvedev performed the third set even more confidently than the first two.

Suffice it to say that on his serve he did not lose a single point out of 16, finished in his favor six out of seven outings to the net and made only one unforced error.

Evans also gave his opponent just one point, but he simply could not hope for success in this game.

Medvedev scored his fastest victory at the current US Open.

He never had to stay on the Flushing Meadows courts for more than two hours.

After the match, the Russian tennis player remembered how Evans once almost deprived Swiss Stan Wawrinka of victory at the US Open, and therefore he was pleased with the victory over such an opponent.

Medvedev first of all singled out the serve as the main factor that helped to win.

“It was a great match, because it was the first game with Evans, and he is a very serious opponent, really difficult. As I said, no one but him managed to earn matchball against Stan when he won the title here. And that means something. He has been a high-level player for many years, so I understood that it was necessary to stay focused from start to finish. I served well, tried to change my style of play and am glad that with such a score I beat such a strong opponent and, so to speak, retained my strength. Before the second week, I feel great. I am satisfied with my game, happy with my psychological and physical condition. Now I'm just looking forward to it, ”said the tennis player.

Medvedev reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament for the third time this season.

This year, the 25-year-old athlete has suffered only two defeats on hard since Wimbledon.

At the current US Open, only one tennis player besides Medvedev has not yet lost a single set - this is the American Ryan Opelka, but he has not yet made it to the quarterfinals.

Until the last day, Argentine Diego Schwartzman also had this achievement, who had a good chance of becoming the next rival of the Russian.

However, the 14th racket of the world unexpectedly lost to the Dutchman Botik van de Sandschulp, who is 117th in the ATP ranking.

They played a five-set match, in which Schwartzman almost bounced back from a score of 0: 2 in sets.

Although van de Sandschulp is little familiar to most tennis fans, Medvedev said he knows his closest opponent well.

“I saw how in the third set Bottik was leading with a score of 5: 4, and then went to his game.

Thought he'd finish in three parts.

When I played and was told that he had just finished and won, I was impressed.

Before I saw some of his games and I remember how in the match against Karen Khachanov in Melbourne he earned a matchball.

I watched him a couple of times in training.

You can say I know his style and I know that he can play well.

He showed it today, especially when he chose very good tactics against Diego.

He was just ubiquitous, ”Medvedev said.

If successful, the Russian will fight for the title match with the winner of the "youngest" quarterfinals at the US Open in the last 37 years.

It will feature 18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and 21-year-old Canadian Felix Auger-Aliasim.
