Roses surrounded the necks of the champions of the national teams of people of determination upon their arrival at Abu Dhabi Airport yesterday, in appreciation of their achievements in the 16th Paralympic Games, which came to an end last Sunday in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, with a large participation of 4,400 athletes from 163 countries, who competed in 22 games.

The UAE achieved three medals (gold, silver and bronze) by Abdullah Al-Ariani, who gifted the country the gold in shooting, and Mohammed Al-Qayed, the silver and bronze medalist in athletics “on wheelchairs.” The UAE ranked fifth among Arab countries and 54th globally, which is considered a new achievement. For the sport of people of determination in the country in light of the challenges that faced the Tokyo version of the conditions of the postponement for a whole year due to the Corona pandemic, in which our heroes confirmed their ability to defy difficulties and achieve achievements for the country in the darkest conditions, and they also demonstrated that the sport of people of determination in the country is proceeding with steady steps headed by Muhammad Muhammad Fadel Al-Hamli.

The heroes were received by Saeed Abdul Ghaffar, Secretary-General of the General Sports Authority, Aref Al-Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abdullah Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, and Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the National Olympic Committee.

Saeed Abdul Ghaffar congratulated the heroes for winning three colorful medals at the Tokyo Paralympics, noting that the people of determination brought happiness to the hearts of the Emirati people, praising the role of the UAE Paralympic Committee in the development of the sport of people of determination.

He said: "The achievement of our heroes is not surprising to them, as they are the first to achieve and raise the flag of the state high in all forums, explaining that the unlimited support of our wise leadership for the People of Determination was the motivation for them to make the effort and preserve the gains they achieved over the past years, and that what was achieved is only The fruit of this support.

He added: "The achievement of our team is a source of pride, pride and appreciation, and we hope that others will follow the example of people of determination, promising to provide all means of support to them and to overcome any obstacles in their way, wishing them more achievements in the upcoming Paralympic Games France 2024."

Al-Ariani: Part of giving back to the state
