The first set went to a marathon tiebreak that the Swiss Bencic won 14-12 after deciding on his fifth set ball when Swiatek hit a backhand wide in the sunshine at the center court Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Swiatek had a total of four set balls.

Then the drama was over and Bencic could quite easily win the second set.

- It was so even in the tiebreak and if I did not win it would have been more difficult.

Now I could be a little more relaxed in the second set, says Bencic seeded eleven in the tournament about the win against the seventh-seeded Polish.

"I went goosebumps"

She enjoyed playing in the largest tennis arena in the world with a capacity of 23771 people, even though it was far from crowded.

- I got goosebumps from time to time from the public support.

It is one of the first tournaments with an audience, says Bencic.

After winning the Grand Slam in Paris in October 2020, 20-year-old Swiatek has never reached more than a quarter in any GS tournament.
