INTERVIEW

The Paris 2024 horizon has never seemed so close ... Tokyo passed the baton to the French capital, the next host city, on Sunday during the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games.

It was on this occasion that Roxana Maracineanu answered Thomas Lequertier's questions on Europe 1. Galvanized by the excellent results of the French Paralympic team, which left with no less than 54 medals, the Minister of Sports projected herself with enthusiasm towards Paris 2024.

Be up to the level of organization and results

“It's up to us to play!” She said.

"We are here, complete to take up the torch. Three years separate us from the Olympic and Paralympic Games in France. We need to be up to the task, both in terms of results and in terms of the organization of this great planetary sporting event ".

As for the results, Roxana Maracineanu has full confidence in the French athletes, who have worked hard and won numerous medals in Tokyo, 33 at the Olympics, and 54 at the Paralympics.

"Olympism and Paralympism are one"

But there is still a lot of work ahead. The Minister of Sports has indeed made it known that she wanted there to be more links between the Paralympic and Olympic Games. "We know the direction to follow for Paris 2024", she assured the microphone of Thomas Lequertier. "It will be necessary to show that Olympism and Paralympism are one". Roxana Maracineanu had already spoken on this subject at a press conference in Tokyo. "There is a third (of French sports returned without medals from the Paralympic Games, editor's note) that we must still support so that there are more links between the Olympic and Paralympic part," she stressed. "We launched it there before Tokyo, it must become a real reality on a daily basis. And not just at the time of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, but throughout the next three years ".

The need for support for athletes

The Minister of Sports also stressed that there were still three Paralympic sports missing for the count to be good by 2024. But don't panic, everything is already planned!

"We will add wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and then goal ball, which is a sport for the visually impaired and the blind", she said before insisting on the need for "mental support," physical and financial "of athletes on the margins of competition.

There is no more !
