Tokyo, bike, jackpot.

The French delegation won on the night of Thursday to Friday an 8th gold medal at the 2021 Paralympic Games and guess what sport it comes from?

Bingo, cycling.

Kévin Le Cunff won a strong victory in the C4-C5 road race.

Wheelchair tennis then hoisted the national colors high with the success in the final of the Stéphane Houdet - Nicolas Peifer pair, at the expense of the British pair Alfie Hewett-Gordon Reid.

With two other bronze medals, France reached the milestone of 50 medals.

The Cunff with panache

Among a group of five riders who broke away in the first part of the race, Le Cunff made a final attack two kilometers from the line to win in the pouring rain after 92.5 kilometers (average: 41.1 km / h).

"We finish two and I go out two kilometers, I felt he was a bit in the rough," says Kévin Le Cunff.

"I came to win, even second, that did not interest me", he delivers.

🤩💪 They did it!

After 3:25 of a titanic fight, the pair Stéphane Houdet / Nicolas Peifer retains their Paralympic title by dominating the British (7-5, 0-6, 7-6 [3]) 🥇🇫🇷 #Paralympics

This is the 33-year-old runner's first Paralympic Games. Former professional within the Saint-Michel Auber team between 2017 and 2019, Kévin Le Cunff even has a victory among the able-bodied in the Buckles of the Alder in 2018 in front of the ex-champion of France Arthur Vichot and Guillaume Martin, eighth in the last Tour de France. Born with two club feet, he underwent two arthrodesis on his ankles (blocked by operation) and retains an atrophied calf. However, he only joined the world of disabled sports in 2020, no longer finding a professional contract.

A little later, the double Houdet-Peifer won an emotional wheelchair tennis final, after an extraordinary fight of 3:25.

As in 2016 in Rio, the French bent the British Hewett-Reid, in three sets (7-5, 0-6, 7-6 [3]).

They were however led 3-0 in the last set ...

Bronze Boullé

During the night, Rémy Boullé had launched the blue machine by going to win the bronze medal in Kayak KL1.

The former parachute commando, who became paraplegic after a parachute accident in 2014, was only beaten in the final by the Hungarian Peter Kiss and the Brazilian Luis Carlos Cardoso da Silva.

This is the first Olympic medal for French canoeing at the 2021 Paralympic Games.

Returning to cycling, a great purveyor of blue charms, Alexandre Lloveras also obtained bronze in the road paracycling event, in tandem with the Tristan Bangma.
