World champion, world record holder, European champion - and now also a Paralympic winner: Johannes Floors has underscored his reputation as the fastest man on two prostheses and has now been honored in the class once made famous by "Blade Runner" Oscar Pistorius.

The Leverkusen man won over 400 meters at the Paralympics in Tokyo on Friday and was only seven hundredths of a second below his world record in 45.85.

"I could cry," said the happy Floors after his run on ZDF.

“I worked for five years to be up here and run that thing down.” For Floors it is the third Paralympic medal after winning the 2016 relay gold and bronze over 100 meters in Japan.

The South African prosthetic sprinter Pistorius, who is in jail for the manslaughter of his girlfriend, had made all para-sport popular by participating in the 2012 Olympics.

Since then, his class and, above all, his favorite route over the stadium circuit in the para area has been a special event.

Subscribed to Bensusan on silver

Meanwhile, sprinter Irmgard Bensusan also took second place for the fifth time in her fifth start at the Paralympics.

The 30-year-old, who suffers from nerve damage in her right lower leg, finished second with a personal best of 12.89 seconds in Tokyo over 100 meters behind Marlene van Gansewinkel (12.78).

Bensusan from Leverkusen had to admit defeat to the Dutch woman over 200 meters in 26.58 seconds on Tuesday.

Five years ago in Rio, Bensusan had won three silver medals in the 100, 200 and 400 meters.

However, the 400 meters are not part of the program in Tokyo.

"Every time I've won silver," said Bensusan ZDF.

"I think my performance is phenomenal."

Born in South Africa, Bensusan was seriously injured in a hurdle fall at the age of 18, and her right lower leg remained partially paralyzed due to nerve damage.

Dark years with depression followed, and sport helped her to get out of what she called her “black hole”.

She moved to Germany for para-athletics, and in 2019 she became double world champion.

The thigh amputee sprinter Ali Lacin won the bronze medal over 200 meters.

The bilateral prosthesis runner finished third in 24.64 seconds and won the first medal on his Paralympics debut.

Gold went to South African Ntando Mahlangu (23.59) ahead of British Richard Whitehead (23.99).
