A former Wimbledon winner was too strong for Andrea Petkovic at the US Open.
The Hessian tennis player had to admit defeat in a good second-round match of the Spaniard Garbiñe Muguruza 4: 6, 2: 6 on Wednesday.
After 1:29 hours, the Darmstadt resident said goodbye to the Grand Slam tournament in New York.
Petkovic, who will be 34 years old on September 9, was the only German next to Angelique Kerber, who is traded as a favorite, in the women's main field of the US Open.
The fact that she couldn't win any of the first three games against the Spaniard, who was ranked ninth, was decisive in set one.
