National coach Louis van Gaal confirmed on Tuesday that Virgil van Dijk will remain the captain of Orange.

The defender of Liverpool can make his comeback for the Dutch national team in the World Cup qualifier against Montenegro on Wednesday.

Thirty-year-old Van Dijk was also the captain of Orange under national coaches Ronald Koeman and Frank de Boer.

Under De Boer, who left after the disappointing European Championship, Van Dijk hardly played any matches due to the serious knee injury he sustained in the autumn of 2020.

Georginio Wijnaldum was then appointed reserve captain.

Thirty-year-old Wijnaldum is also the second captain under Van Gaal.

Daley Blind is the third captain at Orange.

Seventy-year-old Van Gaal announced last week that he would appoint three captains.

This message is being completed.
