Cristiano Ronaldo announced his return to his roots after completing his two-year transfer to Manchester United from Juventus on Tuesday, and the Portuguese striker dedicated the move to his former coach Alex Ferguson.

United confirmed on Tuesday that it had completed the contract procedures for Ronaldo, 36, to return to the club with which he won eight major titles between 2003 and 2009, after passing a medical examination, visa procedures and personal belongings.

Ronaldo wrote on Instagram, "Everyone who knows me knows my eternal love story with Manchester United. The years I spent at this club are definitely amazing and the journey we made together is written in golden letters in the history of this great and wonderful institution."

"It's like a dream come true and after all this time, even when playing against United as a rival, I've always felt a huge amount of love and respect from the fans in the stands."

Juventus confirmed earlier today that Ronaldo left the club after reaching an agreement with United to transfer him for 15 million euros (17.74 million dollars), in addition to eight million euros in the form of performance incentives.

Ronaldo, who spent the last 12 years winning titles with Real Madrid and Juventus, added, "My first domestic league title, my first cup, my first call-up to the Portugal national team, my first Champions League title, my first Golden Boot and my first Golden Ball. All of this was born as a result of a special communication between me and the Red Devils."

"History was written in the past and will be written again, and this is a promise," he added.

"Go back to where I belong and let's do it again. Sir Alex. This is for you."

Ferguson signed Ronaldo as a teenager in 2003, and British media reported that the former Scottish coach persuaded Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is expected to make his first match with United on September 11 when they host Newcastle United in the league, after returning from links with the Portugal national team.
