Liverpool extend captain Henderson's contract

Liverpool announced that it has extended captain Jordan Henderson's contract today, Tuesday, to dispel doubts about his future at the English Premier League club.

Liverpool did not reveal the duration of the contract, but British media reported that Henderson will remain at Anfield until 2025.

Henderson, 31, joined Liverpool in 2011 and made nearly 400 appearances, took the captaincy in 2015 and helped the team crown their sixth Champions League title in 2019 and their first English Premier League title in 30 years in 2020.

"I am, of course, honored and very proud to continue my journey here," Henderson said in a statement.

"It's amazing to get it done and just focus on going into the future. Of course I'm in a different place as a player and as a human being since my first step here."

Liverpool are fifth in the league after a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the weekend and will visit Leeds United on September 12.
