FSV Mainz 05 has shown SpVgg Greuther Fürth the limits in the Bundesliga and has established itself in the top third of the table with the second win of the season.

The further winless climber from Franconia had no chance at 0: 3 on Saturday and is early in the table with only one point.

Anderson Lucoqui with his first Bundesliga goal (15th minute), Adam Szalai (18th) and birthday boy Kevin Stöger (90th + 2) scored the goals for the well-deserved success of the clearly superior Mainz team in front of 11,500 spectators.

After the disappointing appearance at 0-2 in Bochum, FSV coach Bo Svensson changed his starting line-up to five positions.

That made an impact.

The 05er, which had massive corona problems and therefore many failures at the start of the season, acted powerfully from the start and created clear conditions early on.

First of all, newcomer Lucoqui made his debut in the Mainz jersey in the second attempt for the acclaimed lead after initially failing goalkeeper Sascha Burchert.

Only three minutes later, veteran Szalai met with a direct acceptance test after some nice preparatory work by Silvan Widmer.

Fürth struggled against the aggressive home side and could hardly even stage dangerous attacks.

The climber lacked creative ideas and assertiveness.

Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner remained almost unemployed in the first half.

Only with a deflected shot from Dickson Abiama (38th) had to stretch properly.

On the other hand, Lucoqui, who came from Arminia Bielefeld in the summer, could have extended the lead, but failed free-standing on the well-reacting Burchert.

Dominik Kohr was also unable to get the ball into the goal shortly before half-time.

In both scenes, the Fürth defense was not up to date.

The second half began with a moment of shock for the guests when referee Tobias Reichl gave Mainz a penalty for a handball by Abiama.

After intensive evaluation of the video images, however, the decision was reversed because an FSV professional had previously been in an offside position.

Mainz dominated the action almost at will, but failed to do anything for the goal difference.

Szalai (52nd) and Jonathan Burkhardt (56th) missed the greatest chances.

The guests were largely harmless.

Mainz keeper Zentner only had to intervene when Paul Seguin shot (73rd).

In stoppage time, Stöger then provided the right end point on his 28th birthday.
