The Smålanders showed efficiency and punished the guests from the Czech Republic twice in power play.

First, Olle Lycksell put 1-0 with just over four minutes left of the first period.

At the beginning of the second half, the Finn Julius Nättinen increased to 2-0.

Goalkeeper Janis Kalnins looked to keep the score at zero for a long time, but with seconds left in the match, Sparta reduced Prague to 1-2.

However, Växjö's victory could never be threatened.

This means that the Lakers - who played the final in the Champions hockey league 2018 - took the full pot in the premiere in group A.

- Power play was crucial, says the expert Maria Rooth in SVT's broadcast.

The next match is at home against German Bremerhaven on Sunday.

The SHL premiere plays Växjö at home against Färjestad on 11 September.
