A court has charged the Frenchman, Benjamin Mendy, defender of the Manchester City football team, with raping a woman, during his release on bail, in 4 other sexual crimes.

The British news agency "PA Media" reported today, Friday, that Mindy, 27, was placed in pretrial detention after appearing before a local court in Chester today.

Four counts of rape and one of sexual assault were brought against Mindy.

The France international stood in the dock wearing a red jacket and hoodie, in addition to black track pants.

The charges against him, which came from 3 different women, including a girl under 18, are said to have taken place at his home on Winsley Road in Burstbury, Cheshire.

Mindy was charged with 3 counts of rape in October 2020, in addition to sexual assault of a woman last January.

He was also accused of raping a woman earlier this month.

Mindy spoke in court to confirm his name, age and address, and was represented by attorney Christopher Staples.

The district judge has sent the case papers to Chester Crown Court, where Mindy will appear on September 10.

Mendy joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017.

Manchester City had decided to stop Mendy after he was charged by the police and under investigation.

These accusations threaten the footballer's future, as his conviction means his imprisonment and the end of his professional career.
