26-year-old Rebecca Peterson impressed in the quarterfinals against the Czech Tereza Martincova, ranked 66th.

Peterson had the lead with 4-1 and Martincova was forced, due to injury, to finally throw in the towel.

Thus, the Swede was ready for the semifinals.

However, she did not go further than that.

There she was pitted against the world six Elina Svitolina from Ukraine.

The first set was a one-sided story where Svitolina first took the lead with 4-0 in sets before Peterson, who had a total of three double faults in the set, could reduce to 1-4.

But she did not take more games home in the first - instead Svitolina won two more games.

The second set became all the tighter.

Peterson started stronger and took the lead with 2-1 in the game, then the match would develop into a thrilling story after Svitolina came back and took the set for a tiebreak.

There, Peterson pulled the longest straw and won 7-4.

In the final and decisive set, Peterson got the worst possible start.

Svitolina took the lead with 2-0 - and held an advantage until the final numbers were written to 6-3 in the set.

The tournament is thus over for Peterson's part.

For the Ukrainian, the winner awaits between Varvara Gracheva, Russia, and Alize Cornet, France, who will face each other tonight at 10.30 pm.
